Getting in Touch with Your Wise, Creative Intuitive Nature

I have been working on some writing projects lately creating the lessons for my new course on how to grow your coaching business as well as new ideas for free webinars and worksheets.

One thing I have learned over the years is that if you earn your livelihood through creative self-expression (like most of us do as coaches and entrepreneurs!), it’s a smart practice to continually nurture your creative potential and trust your inner instincts.

Too many women get pulled into constant busyness and overwhelm, and it’s taking a toll on our creative potential and ability to connect with our wise inner selves.

One of my favorite books that has helped me get in touch with my feminine power is “Women Who Run with the Wolves: Myths and Stories of the Wild Woman Archetype” by Clarissa Pinkola Estes.

I read it when it was originally published in 1992, but the message still holds true today. Clarissa uses wonderful universal stories and myths to describe our psychological journey from ego to soul and the journey back to our wise woman selves.

She talks about the “Wild Woman” archetype as our natural instinct – the innate, basic nature of women. It’s our wise or knowing nature. It’s the female soul and the source of the feminine. This instinctive nature often contains our creativity, our gifts and our power and can guide us to consciousness.

Understanding this aspect of ourselves is about knowing the soul. This is our true nature that has inner ears and inner eyes, the eyes of intuition, the deep knowing of the heart.

I pulled this book off my bookshelf recently when I found myself struggling to organize and connect with my creative ideas and feeling unsure about what I wanted to say as I was putting my thoughts together for a writing and course design project.

I notice that many women I coach have lost some of their passion for their work. The constant busyness and feeling of overwhelm is taking a toll on all of us. Our collective creative potential is dwindling. We find ourselves drawn too much into the ‘doingness’ of work and home life, into busyness or inertia, often because we have lost touch with our wise nature. We are losing our joy and our energy to create. We may be filled with ideas, but feel unable to act on them.

It takes practice to get connected back to our instinctive, creative senses – back to our passion, energy and soul power. Clarissa suggests drawing on the ‘animus’ aspect of our psyche – your internal masculine energy – to more easily manifest your ideas and creative work in a concrete way.

You can draw on this aspect of yourself to help you organize and implement your ideas for your creative projects and move through resistance, overwhelm or writer’s block. If you are a creative professional and earn your livelihood through creative self-expression, it’s very important to trust your inner wisdom, instincts and insights.

If you’re a creative, idea person like I am, you may need to watch that you don’t just stay in that creative place that we love to be in, and that you stay focused and in action long enough to get your creative projects completed.

Here are five things you can do to stay connected to your wise, intuitive nature and nourish your creative potential:

  • cultivate a daily spiritual practice to connect with your instinctive creative senses

  • create a strong connection to your body’s natural wisdom

  • unleash your creative potential with meditation and quiet time

  • listen to the deep knowing of your heart

  • follow your intuition and trust it to guide you to the next right action

I’d love to hear your thoughts. Post your comments and questions below.

To your wise, creative nature…

  1. Being in touch with your true nature, and your meaningful message is the only way to have a fun enjoyable authentic business. The five tips you give are a way of getting n touch with that – thanks.

  2. Great blog, Jan Marie. Thanks for sharing. Can you explain more by what you mean “Create a strong connection to your body’s natural wisdom”? Thank you. Anja G.

  3. Hi Anja . . .it’s related to intuition & emotion or feeling. For example, if your body is tired, trust that and rest rather than trying to push through.
