I just came back from a month away in Victoria, BC on the west coast of Canada. It was a working holiday, but I decided when I arrived to make it a real holiday and take a break from work.
That was the best decision I could have made. I hadn’t realized how stifled my creativity and inspiration had become. Now that I have had time away, my creative spark is back and I no longer feel blocked in my writing and connecting with clients.
Here are my tips to reignite your creativity if you feel stalled in your work of growing and marketing your business:
1) Take a break from email for at least a week. Have someone else handle it for you, or set up an autoresponder message that you are away and will reply when you return. I deleted most of the emails I received that didn’t need a reply and unsubscribed from all newsletters. It gave me breathing room.
2) Go to a place where you can stop thinking so much. I went to nature and walked by the ocean every day. For you it could be any place where you don’t feel pulled by the constant need to be so active in your business; any place where you can turn off your mind and detach.
3) Have fun! I lived in Victoria several years ago for a few years and I still have many friends there. I had lots of time on my vacation with girlfriends and other friends doing fun things. We laughed and played. It totally took my mind off work. Laughter really is the best medicine.
That’s it. That’s how I rejuvenated myself and reignited my passion for what I do. I came back with new ideas for projects and partnerships. I get up early now looking forward to the work I want to do every day.
