Have you given any thought lately to the mark you’re going to leave on the world?
Many of the coaches and service providers I work with know that they want to make a difference, but they don’t always spend time on the self-reflection needed to get really clear on their core strengths and talents and the unique way they can help the people who need them most. In marketing terms, this is called your “unique differentiator”. It’s linked to your life purpose.
When you align who you are meant to be with who you are meant to serve, you’re on track with your true purpose.
In marketing terms, it’s called having a niche.
We’re all born with a purpose. There is a reason you’re here on earth in this place and at this time.
You are destined to leave your mark in your own unique way.
I know there have been times when I have been too broad and general in my message, and so it hasn’t reached the people who would most benefit. At other times, I haven’t delivered my message to an audience who would warmly receive the benefit from my message, and so I have experienced judgment and lack of interest. It’s almost enough to make you give up.
It took me a while to realize that it wasn’t about me and to not take it personally. It was more about me not taking the time to find the exact audiences who would resonate with what I had to say.
In marketing terms, we call that having a message to market match.
For example, many years ago, I spoke to an audience of government workers along with a colleague of mine. The audience was clearly not interested in our topic of spirit and soul in the workplace. We met with crossed arms, disinterest, and direct challenges during questions time at the end. There were even some people who left the room during our talk.
It was painful, and I don’t want that to happen to you!
So here’s what you can do to step more fully into your own unique purpose and make your mark on the world.
Set aside some quiet time to reflect and write down your answers to the following questions:
1. Determine Your Unique Differentiator.
What are your natural strengths and talents? What are the topics you are most passionate about that bring you alive?
2. Claim Your Niche Market.
Who are the people you most resonate with? Who has values similar to your own? Who is experiencing a challenge that you have overcome and could help them through?
3. Find Your Message To Market Match.
What’s the message you’re most passionate about delivering? What does your inner voice want to say? Who would benefit most by hearing your words of inspiration and hope?
4. Connect with Your Tribe.
To effectively make your mark in the world, you need to develop ongoing relationships with the people you are meant to serve. You need to bring your passion and authenticity with full abandon and trust. To be your true self, sharing your gifts and talents for the good of others.
There has never been a better time to think big about the kind of impact you can have.
Do all of these things and you will be well-positioned to start making your mark in your own unique way and living your true calling.
