Here’s an exercise I give my clients to get clear about their strengths and talents.

If you want clarity on who people see you as and what you want to be known for – your “unique brand” or niche – try this:

Send an email or ask friends, family, clients and colleagues to answer the following questions for you. See if a pattern emerges from what others see in you.

Sample email text: “I’d really appreciate if you would take a brief moment to give me a quick one or two word answer to the following questions. It’s my coaching assignment. I’m to ask three people, and I think you know me as well as anyone.”


  • What word or phrase comes to mind when you think of me?

  • What do you experience in my presence?

  • What’s my greatest strength?

  • What do I do so well that I probably take for granted that you see as a unique ability for me?


You can use the answers you receive about your strengths and the impact you have on others in your website and other marketing materials.
