Darren Rowse of ProBlogger wrote a post today about changing your writing medium if you run into writers block when writing your blog posts. He suggests using pen and paper in a notebook, or using a whiteboard, a text document, saying it out loud or into a recorder, or thinking out loud on Twitter.
Darren said he uses a program called ecto to write and manage many of his blog posts. You can compose entries offline with ecto and use extra features such as spellcheck, creating links, attachments, and more.
I often dictate my posts into my speech recognition software. I use Dragon Naturally Speaking and it’s excellent. I talk much faster than I type, so it types what I’m saying up for me at the speed of my voice.
I also make notes through the week in a journal with ideas for blog posts so that I always have something to blog about and don’t have to think up a new idea every time.
There’s nothing harder than facing a blank page and trying to come up with a creative idea under pressure!
How do you handle writer’s block?
