There’s a saying “to earn more, learn more”. The more you know, the more an expert you are in your area of specialization.
Marketing your business by educating your market is an extremely effective way to promote your business. So, if you are widely read in your topic area, you can be a market leader.
First you need to find a narrow niche where there is demand for your specialty. The narrower the niche, the easier it will be for you to be well read in that area. Of course, the niche also needs to be profitable and in demand for you to succeed.
Concentrate your ‘education’ by reading magazines, trade journals, blogs, newspapers, newsletters and forums in your field. Read widely within your area of specialty as well as generally outside your field to keep up with the latest topics and trends.
Be selective in what you read, and learn to speed read and skim articles. Be mindful of your time. You don’t want to spend all your time reading and none of your time telling your market what you’re learning!
A blog is a very effective place to write about what you’re learning. Teach a course on what you learn to become masterful in your area of specialty.
Remember, the one who learns the most, earns the most.
